Dear 2nd Grade Families,

I hope you had a nice day off yesterday with your children. For part of the day the staff at West Maple went down to the DIA to view the 30 Americans exhibit. It was really wonderful and thought provoking. We are nearing the end of January, thank goodness, and hopefully these bitter cold temperatures. Speaking of cold temperatures, we do try to go outside as much as possible in the winter. Please make sure your child has proper snow gear (hats, gloves, snow pants and boots). It might also be a good idea to have a change of clothes in your child's locker. You never know when they are going to slide into a puddle!

Notes and Reminders...

*Jump Rope For Heart information is coming home today. Everyone participates as long as they have a waiver of liability filled out. It is your choice whether or not you would like to raise money.

*1/21 at 8:00 a.m. Peacemakers meeting

*Waldo’s Wacky Week starts 1/25/16.

This week in 2nd Grade...

Reading: We have begun to work on wonderings while we are reading. Good readers use wondering to construct understanding while they are reading.

Writing: We are continuing to work on our realistic fiction stories. The students are digging deeper to develop their character and plot by adding more descriptive details.

Science: We are investigating air and weather! We have brainstormed our own information about what we already know about air. We will be putting on our lab coats and testing out our different theories about what air is and does in different situations.

Homework:

*New word sorts are coming home this week, the homework paper is due 1/29/16. Please also make sure your child is reading for 20 minutes and practicing his or her math facts each night.

Have a great week!
