Dear 2nd Grade Families,

Welcome to February! I hope you were able to enjoy some of the nice weather we had this past weekend. I know my family did! We have a busy two weeks coming up, so if you are headed out of town early, please let me know so I can make sure your child is finished with some of our activities that are in progress!

News that you can use...

The Hirsch family is growing...we are expecting baby #3 at the end of June. I know many of you haven't seen me in a few months, so I didn't want to catch you by surprise when you do see me. It will not effect the kids in the class, I'll be here through the end of the school year.

Reading: We will continue to explore expository nonfiction. We will work to use the comprehension strategy of wondering to help make sense of nonfiction text.

Writing: Last week, the students wrapped up their realistic fictions and had a publishing celebration. We will begin exploring writing about what we are reading in our next writing unit. Students will work to write letters about the books that they are reading.

Science: We continue to explore air and weather! We will discover that air occupies space and can be compressed. They will work to explain how air can propel a balloon-rocket system.

Have a great week!
